Games wrestling mat is club’s legacy
For a mat bought with funds donated to the Scottish Wrestling Association from the former Kilsyth Wrestling Club will feature in the 2014 Games.
John McRoberts of Kilsyth co-founded both the Scottish Amateur Wrestling Association and the Wrestling and Athletics Club in Kilsyth in the 1930.

Hide AdBy the 1960s the Kilsyth club had split and John ran Kilsyth Wrestling Club, with the help of a few others, until he was hit by illness in the early 1980s.
Some years after Kilsyth Wrestling Club folded, and the death of John, the club’s funds were donated to the Scottish Amateur Wrestlling Association, who used the money to buy an international standard wrestling mat which is being used at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
