Freeze hits football again
CUMBERNAULD and Kilsyth's footballing sides were idle at the weekend, being hit again by the wintry weather.
All three matches scheduled for Saturday were called off because of frozen pitches.
Clyde's game against East Fife, Cumbernauld United's match at Dunipace and Kilsyth Rangers' home game against Ashfield all fell foul of the conditions.
If the weather improves for this weekend, Cumbernauld United are sheduled to travel to face Blantyre Victoria in a league encounter. Kick-off is at 2 p.m.
The Guy's Meadow side have been drawn away to Yorker Athletic in the Central League Cup. A date for this tie has still to be arranged.
Kilsyth Rangers are scheduled to meet East Kilbride Thistle in a league match at Duncansfield on Saturday with a 2 p.m. kick-off.
One piece of good news for the many junior clubs suffering financially from the long lay-off is that a 1000 pay-out will be made to all clubs from the SJFA reserve fund.
In the senior ranks this Clyde play host to Stenhousemuir, who sit two places and seven points above the Broadwood club in the Irn-Bru Scottish League Second Division. Kick-off for this game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Despite the lay-off at the weekend, Clyde were not idle on the player front ahead of Monday's transfer window deadline.
Friday saw the club confirming that 24-year-old Jamie Doyle had been released from his contract. The midfielder had played in seven matches for Clyde after signing in the summer.
And forward Jordan White will remain at the club until the end of the season.
It was confirmed on Monday that his loan deal from Dunfermline has been extended.
Clyde manager John McCormack said: "I'm delighted and want to thank Dunfermline for their agreement to the extension of the loan arrangement. They and Jordan had other options but they chose Clyde.
The Bully Wee boss told the Clyde website: "It's now up to him to earn a first team place. Despite what the records say, I know he has scored for us already and I'm sure he will score mmore. He is learning the game but he has a good future ahead of him.
And McCormack is confident that Clyde can still climb up the Irn-Bru Scottish League Second Division.
"I have not written off reaching the promotion play-offs," he said.
"We can do it. I am working as hard as I can to earn a longer contract at Clyde and that starts by securing our Second Division status and pushing on from there."
