KILSYTH made the short trip to Kirkintilloch for this crunch match and emerged with three vital points, after a fully deserved victory over their local rivals.
The eyes of the Scotti
sh nation may have been on Hampden Park, but Kilsyth put all thoughts of Berti's Boys behind them with a rampaging performance – embroidered with two fine goals from fiery striker Stuart Coleman.
Right from the onset, it was clear that the passing, fitness and determination of this Kilsyth team was going to cause Harestanes problems and the home side found themselves on the back foot straight away.
With Mark Tyrrell and Martin Duffy probing relentlessly from the wide areas, Kilsyth were creating plenty of chances but were having little luck in front of goal.
Indeed, the Harestanes goal seemed to be leading a charmed life in a very one-sided first half and Kilsyth's Kevin Hagen was next to try his luck.
Picking up a loose ball, the big defender embarked on a majestic, surging run from his own half that ended with a 20-yard daisy-cutter, which the home keeper did well to keep out.
Paul Tyrrell, who was at the heart of many Kilsyth attacks, then went close minutes later with a 30-yard howitzer that rattled the post before being scrambled clear.
Buoyed by this impressive first-half, Kilsyth continued to dominate proceedings and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 55 minutes.
Davidson, who was again impressive in goal for Kilsyth, effortlessly plucked a cross out of the air and immediately sent Coleman bearing down on goal.
The striker showed great strength to hold off a defender before arrowing a shot across the despairing dive of the home keeper.
Ten minutes later, Kilsyth went 2-0 ahead and again Davidson was the architect.
From an inswinging corner, the big keeper showed great awareness with a quick throw to Stevie Robie.
The English midfielder went on a lung-bursting 70-yard run before slipping a perfect pass to Coleman, who gleefully rammed his finish into the bottom corner.
Scintillating stuff from Kilsyth and with Harestanes now demoralised, the visitors had further chances to score.
Boslem, Friel and Christie were introduced and the latter found space at the edge of the box.
However, he was unlucky when his Beckham-esque effort was tipped over the bar.
Coleman, who was now looking for his hat-trick, also went close but he then almost let his enthusiasm get the better of him, and was lucky to escape with just a yellow card after a scything tackle on a Harestanes defender.
This was an impressive performance from Kilsyth and Coach James Meechan was understandably delighted.
He said: "The boys played really well and I feel we have shown great bouncebackability, and character, after a couple of poor results."

KILSYTH: Davidson; M. Tyrrell, C.Bell, Hagen, Girvan; Higney, P.Tyrrell, Robie, Duffy; Coleman and Chapman. Subs: Christie, Friel, Boslem, G.Bell, Malone.

Kilsyth entertain Erskine in the Scottish Cup this Saturday at the Sportsfield.
