Talks on event to mark Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

PLANS to hold a special ‘history night’ to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee are under consideration by Kilsyth Community Council.
Vice-chairman and historian, Jim Hutchison, suggested at last week’s meeting that the annual heritage event be used to pay homage to Queen Elizabeth II.
Mr Hutchison said: “There’s only been two diamond jubilees in British history, Queen Victoria’s and our present Queen.
“We could do a wee brochure with the logo on it and four slots. Firstly, when Victoria became Queen and then her diamond jubilee, with a bit about what was happening in Kilsyth during those periods.
“Then we could do a bit about our own Queen, what life was like in Kilsyth at the start of her reign and now – Spe Expectamus, ‘We look forward in hope’.”
Mr Hutchison will report back to the community council with further details at February’s meeting.
Members of the community council also intimated their interest in joining forces with the Friends of Burngreen to arrange a jubilee celebration in Burngreen Park.
