A MAN has been arrested after entering Cumbernauld Police Station with what is reported to have been a shotgun.

Police officers and an armed response unit surrounded the South Muirhead Road station at around 10.30pm on Sunday as two police helicopters circled the town centre.

The nearby pubs and fast food restaurants were locked down as police entered into dialogue with the man, who was eventually arrested and escorted out of the building shortly after midnight.

It has been reported that there were no injuries and the man is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
