Gold standard for college
CUMBERNAULD College has achieved Investors in People (IiP) Gold Standard following a recent inspection.
The college is the first organisation in North Lanarkshire to achieve the prestigious award, with currently less than one per cent of the 35,000 IiP recognised organisations in the UK being awarded the gold status.
IiP assessor, Elizabeth Gorman highlighted some of the strengths and areas of good practice such as strong governance and management; inclusion, equality and accessible learning; quality and excellence and investment in staff.
The IiP report stated that the college ensures its entire staff team is intent in working together to make this college a jewel in its community; a wonderful environment in which to learn; and a challenging, supportive and sociable one to work within.
Praise was also given to the college's enthusiasm to develop people, the commitment to the community and the promotion of life long learning.
Martin McGuire, Cumbernauld College principal, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the college and is recognition of the fact that as an organisation we firmly believe in developing staff across all areas to reach their full potential. I am particularly delighted that the review report highlighted committed, enthusiastic and motivated staff who believe that Cumbernauld College is a great place to work."
This was the college's fifth IiP review, having been recognised since 1997 and over this time, the college has gone from strength to strength.
A motion was lodged in the Scottish Parliament by Cathie Craigie, MSP, who congratulated the management, staff and students on their accomplishment, being the first in the area to achieve the award.
