Homeless service thanks southside firm
The Beacon Centre at Queen’s Park baptist church and The Glasgow Bridge in Possilpark have been receiving donations from Newlands Bakery, ensuring that the pies, bridies, doughnuts and pastries left at the end of a shift doesn’t go to waste.
Linda McKendrick, joint leader at The Beacon, told The Extra: “We are so grateful for the Newlands Bakery food — they’re a small business with a very big heart.

“It’s a lifeline to homeless and under-privileged folk.
“Some residents come in for the company — we have a lot of singing, eating and blethering.
“I just think the southside community should know of a local firm who are so generous as to think of others in need.”
Stephen Irvine, director at Newlands Bakery, added that he is “happy to help the community, especially the homeless and those in need.
“We do it with a number of groups, and hope to continue to help in our own, small way.”
