Although the big freeze was good news for pupils who enjoyed a day off, it also created nightmare driving conditions.
However, the council's enterprise resources committee chairman Councillor Chris Thompson said: "We have been well prepared and have coped well.

Hide Ad"All major roads in South Lanarkshire have remained open and that is testament to the hard work and skills of the roads operatives who are out in the middle of the night in the worse conditions.
"However, as always it is important to remember the forces of
nature are sometimes simply greater than anything we as a council can bring to bear.
"That's why I'd like to re-emphasise the need for community spirit, so that we all help one another."

Hide AdThe heaviest snowfalls in Clydesdale so far were in Tarbrax and Elsrickle with six inches and Carluke and Law with three inches.
