KILSYTH will again have no flower show this year.
A number of factors have led to Kilsyth and District Horticultural Society to abandon any plans for a show in 2008.

The last show, the 128th, was in 2006. Last year the staging that the society used for the exhibits was damaged in a fire in storage prior to the show.

Joe Sneddon, secretary and treasurer of the society, said that the staging had not yet been replaced.

"Many of our members are elderly now and we're got getting any new blood in," he added.

"Others have had to give up to concentrate on their businesses. The weather has not helped either and many of the local gardeners do not have a great deal to show."

The show was revived some years ago after being in abeyance for a year or two, but Mr Sneddon was unsure whether or not there will be an attempt to bring it back again in 2009.

However, locals who do wish to exhibit their flowers, fruit, or vegetables or try their hand at home baking will still be able to. Banton's annual flower show is on as usual on Saturday, September 20.
