Lanark auctioneer is new president of Institute
The appointment of that popular and very familiar figure at the sales at Lanark Agricultural Centre, Willie McCulloch, is the new President of the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland.
And, although the job comes with an impressive chain of office, Willie is under no delusions that this “great, great honour” ISN’T just a symbolic pat-on-the-back from a profession the 55-year-old now has nearing four decades experience in.

Hide AdIn fact, when the Gazette caught up with him, he’d already been at a meeting in Brussels with EU officials and by the time you read this will have had talks with the Scottish Govermment in Edinburgh on tagging of stock.
It’s all very different from his early days, when the teenage Willie went along with his dad - “who had a wee field in Wishaw with a horse in it” - to the old Lanark Market sales.
