Groups invited to battle it out
BANDS from Cumbernauld and Kilsyth are being invited to enter this year's Battle of the Bands Competition.
Heats will take place in Sir John Wilson Town Hall, Airdrie on Thursday, November 19, at 7.30pm and Bellshill Cultural Centre on Friday, November 20, at 7.30pm.
All applications will be assessed throughout October and six bands will be chosen to take part in each heat.
Three bands from each will be chosen by professional judges to compete in the final, which will be held in Motherwell Concert Hall on Friday, December 4, at 7.30pm.
The winning band will receive six days recording at Beetroot Studios in Airdrie. Runners-up will also receive recording sessions at Beetroot Studios - second prize is a four-day recording session and third prize will be a two-day recording session.
Entry to the competition is only 3 per band, who must also supply a non-returnable demo tape or CD and a photograph of the band.
The closing date is Friday, November 6, and all competitors must be over 16 years; they must also reside in North Lanarkshire, attend music classes here, or have recorded at Beetroot Studios, Petersburn.
Tickets are 3 for audience members for heats and final of Battle of the Bands and are available from calling the advance booking office on (01698) 403120 or online at www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk. Admissions for over 16s only, please note ID may be required.
The 2009 competition is being run by North Lanarkshire Council's learning and leisure services department.
